About Betty

Betty Poulsen is a Walyalup-based artist originally from the UK, working primarily in painting and drawing. Her practice is rooted in the emotional landscapes of domestic life, where everyday objects—chairs, vessels, talismans,  heirlooms, and family mementos—serve as symbols of memory, identity, and connection.

Betty’s portraits and still lifes are intimate and often set within her home, reflecting the close relationships and spaces that shape her world. Repetition plays a key role in her process, with familiar subjects reappearing as part of an ongoing exploration of unresolved emotions and quiet rituals. Informed by her background in textiles, jewellery, and ceramics, Betty’s work is tactile and deeply personal. Through this multi-disciplinary approach, she transforms the overlooked and discarded into powerful vessels of meaning, exploring how the domestic can speak to universal human experience.
